In April of 2024 we will be directly in the path of a total solar eclipse. Nation 4-8-24.jpg
Of course, we aren't the only ones! We have our dark safety glasses from the last eclipse, I'm planning a post-eclipse barbecue, and we are figuring out how to explain to the cats that "yes, that was a very short night and we'll put out your breakfast soon."
Don't you just love celestial events?

    Cor :):):)

Watched the 1999 one from the top of a hill on the edge of totality

It got dark and cool, the birds stopped singing and the sheep stopped bleating.

The last time there was a solar eclipse here Ian and I wanted to see it in all its glory. Only problem was that when it took place the weather decided it was going to be really foggy. Missed it completely. :(

Oh Eileen, how sad! We are hoping the weather will cooperate in April of 2024. My husband is making plans to set up his camera with a special filter to capture the eclipse in several stages. Since the event is supposed to happen between roughly 12:30 pm and 3:30 pm, I may be in for a long afternoon!

Puts me in mind of September1950 when we all sat cross legged in the school playground with our bits of smoked glass. Scared the living daylights out of me at the time

They wouldn't let us out in the playground in 1971, just saw it turn dark outside :( So we sat indoors eating our bits of smoked fish
