These are the ones that I had brought from Jewell last year. Anticipating the move, I never planted them and these were sitting in the garage. Now they are lanky but hopefully will do well once they settle down. phlox ( photo / image / picture from Tina's Garden ) phlox ( photo / image / picture from Tina's Garden )
Don't be afraid to pinch them back by half now and again after they have branched out and gotten some growth. Once established they will flower most of the summer.
They look great. I agree, it never hurts to give things a 'chop chop' once in a while. Especially in Spring.
Sjoerd : No idea what color yet. I am really afraid of the 'chop chop' I don't think I can muster the courage to do that. Will they not do well if I don't go scissors happy? [/quote]
I think that they will do fine if you do not clip them. Of course some folks prune their Phloxes around the time of the Chelsea Flower Show in GB. They call this the "Chelaea Chop" It is a technique to prolong or put-off blooming until a later date. Chopping for this end with your new little plant may not be wise. It can be a plus in the sense that it may send up more stems from the roots....but that is a "maybe" this first year. If you have any doubts or if you are tender-hearted, just plant it and leave it and wait until next year to consider clipping it then. That way you can first see if the little plantlet will 'take'.
One man I do flower work for has some pink phlox that neither he nor I planted. We believe they came from the neighbor's.
