I'm planting some green beans in bags of garden soil upon inspiration from Sjoerd and his extra-tomato bag..

I picked up a couple of bags of regular old garden soil without any fertilizer added.

Should I at least mix in some peat and compost? It just seems so odd to add nothing at all.....

If it was me I would add some compost at least. A lot of garden soil has little if anything nutrient wise. Now if it is a better one with compost and sucgh then maybe not. I guess it really would depend on the quality of the garden soil.

If I was to plant the pole beans in the back and trellis them up and forward and have the bush beans in front of them might that work?
