Did you know that big seeds should be planted edge-up and not flat? This is because when they germinate, the seeds split from the side and if they are planted flat, they may well rot before they have germinated successfully. I started some broad bean seeds the 'wrong' way up and they've taken 3 weeks to come through, so I wish I'd known this beforehand; just thought I'd pass it on.

Thanks for the tip - I am glad that your beans did germinate albeit after three week and that it did not rot.

I don't know for sure that my 'misplaced' planting delayed the seeds but the funny thing was, when I did plant them, I noticed, leaving my shed, a brand new moon. My beans appeared on the eve of the full moon . . .unintentional biodynamics??? . . .
