I would think that peas are the only thing that you have time to grow and can tolerate the cold. I live in Vermont and that is about all i can get in the ground now.

You could try Swiss chard, Perpetual spinach, Purple sprouting broccoli, winter lettuces, endive, Purslain, radish, Brussles sprouts...there are some types of caulis that can be planted as well as winter carrots.
I don't know if you are on the same latitude as us here, but these would be worth a try. I harvest Perpetual spinach, Purple-sprouting broccoli and Swiss chard all winter long here.

    brussells sprouts in late august

I wouldn't suggest planting brussells sprouts now (I too live in southwest Ontario). I put mine in as seedlings in late May and they are just to the point now where the first sprouts down at the bottom are 1/2 to 3/4 inch around. I think by November your plants would be this far along (though without the heat of summer they might not progress as well) and then they would freeze and not be able to mature.
Try green beans, they were really fast, swiss chard for sure. I agree, peas too, snow or snaps, they were really fast growers.

I am thinking positive I know, but I put out Broccoli plants this week. Little ones to boot! I also have Cuke plants about 3 inches tall. Okay, they may fall prey to snow, but nothing ventured, nothing gained I say. Go ahead and give it a try. LOL

    Thanks alot
I put in green beans, radishes, kohlrabi, spinich, and carrots. I realize the carrots need time, but even if I get baby carrots, I'll be happy.
