I am looking for some advice about planting under existing, very mature trees and where there is exposed root systems. I would really like to create a privacy screening that would help block out neighbors on the one side and we have been restricted from upgrading to a 6 ft. fence. Part of this planting would occur under mature trees, partially shady conditions but without exposed tree roots. We currently have a 4 ft fence so we are looking for shrubs or and or trees that will grow substantially higher than that.
What kind of trees do you have? Evergreen or deciduous, and would they be making the soil alkaline or acidic?
Hi Primsong, These would be deciduous trees, but I'm not sure about the soil. Let me check on that. Right now, the area in question gets partial sun in the late afternoon. From late fall to early spring they would obviously get more, but I haven't lived here when all the leaves are off the trees.
