These are 8 of the 9 plants I got from Grower's Exchange a week ago. One of the Foxglove, for whatever reason, didn't make it. I need to contact them to see about a replacement. Nicky spent last night, had chocolate donuts and chocolate milk this morning and then we got to work. He filled the pots with compost then put them in place and all I had to do was put the plants in the pot. Then he swept the front porch area where we were working. There are 3 Leaf Celery, 3 Echinea purpurea 'Magnus' and 2 Digitalis purpurea 'Foxy' Keep your fingers crossed that I can keep them alive through the winter. I do have a small greenhouse I used to start seeds in the Spring so that should do the job through whatever (if any) cold spells we have. Ahh so that's the secret of getting help in the garden. I must stock up on had chocolate doughnuts and chocolate milk. As I don't have a grandson maybe I could borrow yours. Isn't it nice when there's someone who helps you out by making light work of potting up plants. I looks as though he's done a really splendid job for you.
Cute kid. I love it when my grandson helps me out and enjoys doing it. He sometimes tells me, "its mans work."
I only really got into gardening from my Grandpa's passion which he installed into my father. :-D I realllllly do think it's something you can do with your grandkids, doesn't cost much but creates a fantastic life long bond. Think Echinacea purpurea 'Magnus' is a sort of new introduction, so it's supposed to be superb! Hope it looks great for you next Summer toni!

His big brother can be bought with a package of bacon Eileen, now that I know what to bribe him with I am going to order some fall planting bulbs and get him dig holes for me next month. Jewell, Thanks he is a cutie and has a comedian personality to go along with it. Frank, he made sure all the pots were level too so the dirt wouldn't fall out. Thanks Donna, Nicky is leaning towards gardening but the poor kid is like his mother...he can't stand for his hands to get dirty but I had some latex free gloves so he was happy. Vuylstekeara he is wanting to get his Boy Scout Gardening Merit Badge. We tried to work on that last year but the searing heat and drought of that summer wiped out his little container garden. Echinacea purpurea 'Magnus' is a fairly new introduction. I ordered some for planting last fall and they did very well this past summer.
What a good looking kid. He looks pretty proud of himself, too! Do you notice that even though there might be complaints about helping, he manifests a sense of accomplishment? It's something I've begun to realize with my older grandkids. They may not be too thrilled at the idea of helping Grams "work" whether it's in the garden or around the house, but if I work with them, it's seems to turn into a wonderful opportunity for them to accomplish something they can feel proud of, even if it's something small like a correctly potted plant, or a freshly sparkling table. Builds self-esteem I think, not to mention that the action of doing something like that seems to loosen their little tongues too. I've had some of the loveliest chats with my grandkids while we're in the middle of accomplishing some project.
