Imagine getting a message from your pepper plant on your cell phone that tells you it is thirsty. Sound like science fiction? Think again! Micro-chips have been developed to do just that. The application of such a device has far reaching implications, from water conservation in arid regions to raising crops on long space voyages, the device could be the future of water resource management. Someday, sooner than you think, you may receive a phone call from your plant with a pre-programmed message." Hello, this is your tomato plant." "I am thirsty. please water me". Jerry P.S. Lets hope they don't start calling each other. It will give a new meaning to, "I heard it through the grapevine"
i think thats a great idea!!! the plants will be talking to us themselves next . . "make me a sandwhich pal" :-?
Jerry--Wow that is unreal. Reminds me of a recent show on our PBS channel. They were putting in a watering system for their lawns and flower gardens. The device would monitor the weather and then determine how much to water the lawns or flower gardens. It even took the humidity levels into consideration. Now if they can only develop something that will plant, care-for,and harvest my veggies.
call Yeah it's just a matter of time then until some of my plants get a little neurotic and start calling SAYING they're thirsty, but really they just want to talk....
I am at the beck and call of a cat. I don't want to expand that to being at the beck and call of plants!
Sounds like a nice way to keep houseplants alive! I forget to water them and they die, of course. I might just get me one of those microchips. Please note the "might". If the children, cats and assorted furries keep making demands, I might let the plants fend for themselves.
O - My - gosh....what next...and I was thinking of getting rid of my cell phone..my grandkids laugh at me now because I don't have a phone to go on the internet. Just wait until they want to text me or call me and I am getting a call from my tomatoes! That will show them...
I think my mom could definitely use this...she's horrible about watering stuff (so why on earth did I give her a pot of tulips for V-day??)
:'( I just had a phone call...one of you isn't watering your plants and they are tattling to me.... :-D ...Please give them water, I hate to be up all night answering the phone... You know who you are...so I won't give names!
