Hubby and my "good brother" put up some gutters on the garage/storage building for me to have a 2nd rain barrel. We got it all set up yesterday just in time for this morning's rain. I've been thinking of wrapping the barrel in some of that cheapy bamboo curtain (like the other one)... but now that I actually see it in action... I like being able to see how fast it's filling up! And we're not catching all we could be... yet.
After a little caulking and making my downspout fit better... I bet this amount could get close to doubling.
Anyhow... after about 3/8th inch of rain (and it's still raining)... look at how much I have already!

If you want to fill it up quicker you can come over here and take away all our snow. ;)

Thanks for the offer Eileen... but I think I'll pass.
    :D
With an half inch of rain... it's already 2/3rds full. And it's still sprinkling off and on.

Chery very nice rain barrels. You could still cover it with the bamboo. Just take out a few of them so you can see how much water you have in it. I'm closer so you can come and get my snow. We are suppose to get 2-4 more inches tomorrow. I am so ready for spring. :stew1:

Oh Tooty... your offer of snow is so appreciated, but it ain't gonna happen! :D
I'll probably eventually cover it somehow. And I do like the look of the bamboo.
Or my other thought was to just slap on neat bumper stickers as I find them. :D
I just talked to one of my cousins and he says he can usually get the plastic drums from his job. I asked if he could get me one since I want to put another one on the other side of the building. And my "good brother" wants one to set up at his house. :stew2:

Before I retired the company sold the property we were on and then leased back a portion. A new company built a new building and attached to the building was a underground concrete rainwater storage system that stored up to 33,000 gallons of rainwater. LOTS of water for the lawns and gardens.

Fabulous! After the dry season we had last year, I plan on getting a few more rain barrels too :)

Cheryl, Walmart sells bamboo shades that you can hang on the outside of your windows and it would be an easy fix (and cheap) to cover that barrel. I found mine in with the blinds.

Yes Carolyn... that's what I use. And Big Lots usually has them too and cheaper.

I'm very lucky to have four brothers...all good in their own way. And don't get me started on how wonderful I think my big sis is! :-D
