Things are drying up nicely here in the Artic. Its still cold. But the sun is starting to get really nice and warm. And the sun is up to 17 hours a day now, and rapidly heading to 24 hours by the first week of May. the snow is melting fast and i can finally get out and work on the southern and western areas of the farm. I decided to work on an area that is in the southern section that has a very large garden of Lupins and some other kind of tall plant with yellow flowers,, I let these die in the autumn but don't clear them out because they make good protective cover for the ground and also this time of year you don't have to struggle cutting them, their brittle so they just break off. To my surprise i found 4 little crocus all covered up. The other part of the gardens where i took the pics of crocus before are still working on blooming but these 4 decided to shine!

before i started to break away the lupins

exposing them a little better, and one came up thru a leaf.

Once I was done clearing and also took the leaf off the one white one, it also started to open right up. Also in the snow, in a half circle is a group of some of my red, black and white currents. But its way to early for those yet.

I can't wait to see what other surprises are going to show their faces.

Sorry to whine, but I woke up to another 2" of snow on the ground this morning. Someone hit our mailbox last night because of the rain/sleet/snow mix that made our roads pretty slick, so I guess I know what we'll be doing today. Won't be easy to erect a new mailbox post in the snow!

I love your crocuses Biita...keep sending us your snapshots of spring.

Surprises like your crocus's are very welcome Biita!!! You must take photographs of those red, white and black currents when they bloom and then again when they produce their berries. Spring was a long time coming but was definately worth the wait!! :stew1:

I'm so pleased for you! I can see from your last photo that you've still got some time to go before the snow's gone.

Kaseylib, so sorry for your mail-box. Such rude behaviour, not offering to help you fix it.

Oh goodie...Biita's got blooms! It's fun to share your enthousism with you. I like those little crocuses, they are a tough yet beautiful flower, aren't they?
Don't make the mistake that I did by doing too much cleaning up all at once.

Sorry about that mailbox, KL. I feel exactly the same way as Droopy about the rudeness. I find it sort of unimaginable, actually.

yes i would say spring is here,,lol,, altho last night it snowed. just a little dusting but dang,,lol. Its all melted now so that makes it okay. I woke up and went downstairs, looked out the window and said,, ohhh no it didn't! it did. but its gone now. So let spring roll in!

When i took that last pic, i didn't relize the contrast that was there, i just wanted to get a pic of the 4 little beauties,, but i like it too!

I would seriously think about getting it enlarged a bit, and having it framed.
It is so symbolic of life . . . There is adversity . . . with the promise of something good if we will just wait it out, and have faith.
:stew1: My hat is off to you for such an inspiring photo! :stew2:
