The first looks like a variety of Curcuma, probably Curcuma alismatifolia also known as the Siam or Summer Tulip. It's actually a member of the Ginger family.

The second looks a lot like Clerodendrum bungei, also known as the Mexican Hydrangea or Rose Glory Bower.

I don't know about the first one, but I have one of the second. And Bernie absolutely right about it.

I don't know all the botanical names, but the first one looks like it's in the ginger family. The second one, already ID'd I thought was in the hydrangea family.

How do y'all remember all those latin names? I can't get my southern tongue wrapped around them. :-D

Merrybelle... I know what you mean! I'm in total awe of those who know all those Latin and botanical names.
I do well to remember the most basic common names.
Thank goodness for forums like this.

The poetry and the science of flora and botany, gardening and agriculture are sure interlaced here.

The common names are so much prettier and descriptive, with stories behind them. But,if you want to know what plant may grow best, there can be several very different types of plants that have the same common names, but only one latin name. But enough of plant philosophy, now I will get out and weed.

    Hey Donna. Pretty plants there!
You got these yourself? Keeping the Clerodendron in the sun? Mine is a bit shaded and grew like crazy. I'd put it on the invasive list if it didn't have such cool blooms.
I had only one last year and it suckered like crazy... I am trading suckers with other gardeners here.
I got some even 1m away from the big one.
