A farmer sitting in the air conditioned cab of a big John Deere tractor pulling one of These probably thinks he has it bad.

I think, somewhere in Randy's family photos is one of his great-grandfather plowing that way.

My Dad tells stories sometimes about my GrandDad working the horse and plough. Always seemed like tough work but he does get nostalgic about it.

There are some small farms over here that have gone back to using horses. They are, after all, environmentally friendly compared to tractors but it must be hard work.

I'd love to see a farmer using a horse ... that is hard work! The farmers around here have huge tractors with air conditioned cabs and music playing. I wonder how long it would take to do a field with a horse the old way?

In Holmes County Ohio there is a very large Amish settlement. Almost the whole county. They use hay burners for everything.

I have photo's of both of my Grandfather's each standing with their pair of mules. I watched this man work this mule for about thirty minutes and it gave me a new appreciation for how hard farm life was not all that long ago. I do believe I would have enjoyed it though.
