In case you do not know,, I am a huge fan of our grocery store mark down counters ! Can really get good deals for those that look ! This week I hit the jackpot for fruit ! They had just put a bag (about 10 lbs for $2.per bag.) of beautiful red, Santa Rosa, and black plums ! OK,, I wanted a fruit salad but this is a bit more than I need ! Another was full of red delicious apples and navel oranges all same price @ $2. ! These will last a while but anyone have any different recipes for the plums other than the typical jelly and jam ?
What a sweet, delicious find I am quite sure our local chain grocery stores would rather throw out produce than offer it too inexpensively
You are kidding ?? Surely not ! Why not ask about it ? Half price is better than nothing at all ! Ours has one for meats and one for produce ! Evven our local garden center produce stand has a mark down counter ! You can get a flat of tomatoes for $8.
That doesn`t make sense,, even if you buy meat at mark down prices you still have to buy stuff to cook it with and other items !
Plum upside down cake Grease and line the bottom of a cake tin half the plums put them upside down, make a cake mixture and pour over the plums. Put in a pre heated oven temp for a cake mixture and cook until it's golden brown or test it with a sqewer if it comes out clean it's done. Or a crumble, instead of the cake mixture put a crumble mix on top, cook until the crumble is golden or the plums are bubbling.
I put two pans full in the oven and just baked them,, Oh !! They were good even without sweetener ! Being a Type 1 diabetic I can eat them with few problems ! Good with a biscuit or toast !
