We are experiencing the first blast of cold air rushing down from Canada. The temperature dropped about 30 degrees in a matter of hours. The wind is just roaring outside tonight. I spent hours watering all our newly planted trees and shrubs at our shop, and then drained and put away the hoses. Looks like a huge part of the U.S. will be in the deep freeze for a few days. Then I hope we get back to some more seasonal temperatures. I am really not ready for winter just yet!
We are bracing for it here in Pa in 24 hours. Don't look forward to it but will be ready for it. I THINK...... Got all my water stored and food stored and firewood brought up to the house. Let it rip.......
Here in Nashville we're dropping into the 40's during the day starting Wednesday, and into the 20's at night! It's way too early around these parts to have temps that low!
It's a beautiful, sunny day here in Canada! lol Temperatures are above seasonal today, but expected to drop tomorrow. I thought it was kind of funny that the news was talking about a "deep freeze" and when I checked the low was only expected to be -5°C (about 23°F) They usually reserve the term "deep freeze" for winter temperatures in the -30°C range, so I was a little nervous!
It'll get here Wednesday night with a chance of it actually getting down to the freezing mark on Thursday morning.
It is very cold here. Actually 40 degrees lower than this time yesterday. Woke up to a layer of snow too. :'( It has been such a wonderful, warm, pretty Autumn. I guess a coat of snow is good, when the temp changes so quickly. Staying in today!
Wind changed direction over night here, yesterday it was almost 80 degrees, south wind at 20-25 mph....this morning it's 45deg with a north wind at 15-20 mph. NICE, I like it this way much better. Yep, this cold snap has been blown all out of proportion by the news media....gee, imagine the news media over-hyping things. The Polar Vortex is still where it has always been, vortexing around the North Pole. Over the years these cold spells have been labeled Siberian Express, Blue Norther, the McFarland Signature and now those names have become too tame so the weather guys on TV have changed it to Polar Vortex for the shock value.
They can call it whatever they want, it is news when the weather changes so drastically. The high here today was 23F and will dip into single digits tonight. I appreciate my local weather forecasters keeping us informed. The ice on the roads was dangerous this morning, windchills are in single digits. It's good to be forewarned when the weather takes a turn.
The cold and a little snow has hit us. It's 5 degrees now. It's predicted that we will get up to a foot of snow by Friday. At the altitude we live at, that's really not a lot of snow, more like normal. Not that I like it, more like I expect it even with out Polar Vortex.
Drastic weather changes are fairly normal here, nothing uncommon at all to be 80 deg one day and in the 30's the next morning when a cold front pushes through. If there isn't a strong cold front on top of us then the temps can climb back into the 70-80 degree range quickly. And cold fronts typically move over us heading a little further south where they meet the warm Gulf air that is stronger than a weakened cold front and it pushes it back north as a warm front with temps rising again. Our weather patterns cause a lot of bronchitis problems in the winter.
