This one was taken earlier in the spring. We have redwood on the outside edge, then I put an edging of large rocks up by the water.

When we cleaned it out, we drained the water. As it was draining we put the fish into a large bucket. Sorry to say most of the babies did not make the transformation. probably temperature change of the water. Then we filled the pond with clean water. Let it set for a day to let the sun warm it back up. Put the fish in baggies (2-3 in a bag) just like they do when you bring fish home from the store. and let them float so they would get used to the temperature. After a few hours we let them go in the pond. So far they seem to be doing good, enjoying their clean home.
These next two were taken in the evening so that you could see the spray fountain easier.

I thinned out my rocks along the edge for neatness.
Also 3 of the frogs have returned. I expect they'll be back before fall.

That looks like a nice calming place to sit in the evenings. Hope the frogs do come back.

Sorry to hear that most of the babies didn't make it Petunia but maybe you'll have more next breeding season. Your pond look great with the fountain and appears to be very similar to the one I have in our pond. I love to listen to it while I'm working in the garden. I'm sure your frogs will all appreciate their nice, clean pond. :stew2:

Thanks for the comments. Went to find a few more fishes at some stores, but had no luck. I know what we have will breed again. I think I will try to find some kind of netting to lay over the pond for the fall-atleast it might keep out some of the leaves.

That is a nice sized pond Petunia. We just have a small one, but we still have to clean it the same way you do. We were very lucky last time as all the fish survived. Do you leave it running during the winter? We bring our fish inside for the winter as our little pond isn't very deep and it will freeze solid.

What a nice little pond. I want some type of water feature in my yard but it's too small for a pond. Sorry about your fish, hopefully next year. I hope your frogs come back and maybe you'll have some tad poles in the spring.

Netty: In the winter, we just take the sprayer off and leave the pump running under the water. The top of the water will freeze in the winter but will still have moving water below. The fish will stay at the very bottom. the pond is about 4 1/2 foot deep estimate.

Lovely pond, Petunia. You did a thorough job and i'm sure you'll get lots of fishies in the future. What kind of plantings do you put around it, for future reference.

Gg; I do have a pond fern that I leave in the pot beside the pond. Haven't really picked out any plants for inside the pond.
