    porcupine

This is the closest I will ever get to a porcupine. I made my hubby turn around so I could take pictures of this poor thing after it got hit by a car.

I had never seen one before so I had to get a picture of it. I felt sorry for him for dying on the road but I felt fortunate that I got their first before he got made into chopped meat on the road.

Poor thing! I hate seeing animals dead on the road. This is the time of year where we see a lot of it ... the pavement holds the heat and the animals like the warmth and get hit.

Barb, I didn't know that you had porcupines there. We don't have them here and I have never seen one before. I take it you don't see many of them out in the wild or even as roadkill, huh?

Nope, I can remember my parents talking about one they saw in the woods behind my childhood house one night and that was about 60 years ago. That's it. So this poor dead one was cool to get a picture of. My hubby, being raised in Illinois had seen them allot.

You know, just looking at that picture he looks so soft that I want to pet him. They don't look like they would inflict such horrible pain as you hear about. My hubby worried I was going to try to touch him when I took that picture.

I must have been standing to close... :D :D

We have oodles of them out in the woods. When there gets to be an overabundance the Fish & Game department will offer a bounty on them. They destroy the pine trees. :( The native Klamath Indians use the quills in jewelry making. They create some beautiful objects with them.
