Spent yesterday at a friends house smoking pork butts. When all was done they gave us the smoker. I just love it. Needs a little work but that will be fun. The pork was wonderful. Had eight quart bags left after eating for freezer.

That look delicious, we loved chopped/pulled pork. But since I don't have a smoker I cook pork butt in the slow cooker with a little vinegar, paprika, salt and pepper and we have several bags of it in the freezer for later meals too.

Be sure to posts photos of the smoker redo.

Donna, someone GAVE you a smoker? What a wonderful gift!
We smoke pork butts with mesquite chunks, then pull the butts and freeze. We have pulled pork sandwiches that are very, very good.
I did pork butts in the slow cooker before we got our smoker/grill. Now the slow cooker is for stews and such. Nothing like slow smoked pork for a great taste!

We just might be the only people around, in Texas at least, who do not cook outside on a grill or smoker.

But Marshall's BBQ makes a scrumptious smoked chopped pork and they take special orders. I think I can get a lot more for my money from them than buying a bone-in butt at the grocery store.

Hey Donna, put a couple of eyeballs and a beak on that smoke stack and your smoker will look like an ostrich !!

Oh yum. We have about 3 smokers that are shot. We should see if we can combine them to have just one.

I have done turkeys and fish but never pork. Yours looks mouthwatering.

Oh wow Donna that look so good!!!
Got a call from the butcher this morning that he got a black pig and we rush down to get some and bought almost half of the pig :) Smoking some of it would be great but we have no smoker :(

Donna what kind of wood do you use?

    Thank all.

KK, We used hickory and apple wood. Is the meat of a black pig any different from a pink pig?

Donna I love the smell of hickory and getting the right wood for smoking here is impossible because it is not available at all :(

Yes the meat of the black pig is tastier but our black pig here is no longer original. In some countries there are farms that specialized in farming black pig and in US they are breeding the Large Black, occasionally called the Devon or Cornwall Black is a breed native to Great Britain. One of the farm breeding black pigs in the US is LARGE BLACK PIGS OF MAINE. Check it out it is interesting.
