I took a cutting last year from the host plant. Since then it seems to have thrived in our living room, next to a south-facing window and now stands around three feet high with leave measuring about two inches in length (see photos attached). I seem to remember (when I took the cutting), that I had been attracted to it due to the pretty, small purple flowers that were blooming on it at the time (late last Spring). I appreciate it is now in the middle of Winter, but it has now grown to quite a size, enjoying a good drink every week and plenty of sunshine. I hope it'll eventually flower and wonder when this might occur and more importantly what it might be called? I have a garden and could plant outside if it could tolerate Spring temperatures into Summer but am unsure if it should remain inside - I'd prefer to plant out, as it's quite a size! Any advice would be greatly received. Wish I could help here, but this doesn't remind me of any particular house plant that I can think of. Is it a house plant or an outdoor plant brought inside? If this plant was propagated just last year it seems to be a very fast grower. I can't think of anything that grows this fast as a houseplant.
Maybe the leaves would look better if we straightened them up. Anthos photo ( photo / image / picture from waretrop's Garden ) Anthos photo ( photo / image / picture from waretrop's Garden ) Looks like an Ovocado Tree to me. Barb in Pa.
Thanks to Netty, I have now been put out of my misery! A Blue Potatobush it is (Lycianthes rantonnettii). I have scrutinised the pictures she kindly sent and they match perfectly...so if I can just keep it going indoors, until our Spring arrives, I think it will move out onto to the south-facing balcony and impress any passers-by who gaze upon its blaze of purple blooms (which I trust will come with a bit of TLC/sunlight/water/heat!). Despite the grisly UK weather here, I trust you are all enjoying your gardens? It's the longest day of the year next week...roll on Summer and maybe a worldwide economic miracle to boot. We can but live in hope!
