A while ago I put a few of the little scrubby new potatoes we grew in a 5 gal. bucket and covered them with horse manure and hay, did the same for others that were left from garden on the ground by the tree where we let them cure. Tops grew and did well till they froze and were about 6 inches tall at that time. Dug down yesterday and found new potatoes that will be dinner one day this week. What it proves,, potatoes do not need the tops or blooms to produce. And as long as the entire bucket doesn`t freeze,, they will make potatoes in winter here. Just have to get them started earlier next time.
