I have a problem with my potatoes. The leaves are turning brown and crunchy and some are turning yellow. Does this mean they are dead oe done growing the potatoes? should I pull them? Not all doing this. Could it be a disease? If anyone has an answer I would love to know. thanks ggo
I would assume they are finishing up. When did you plant them? Try to dig from the side and find a tater and see how big they've gotten. If you don't disturb the plant, you can "sneak" taters out early and the plant will keep producing. Great for sneaking those early baby reds.
well I wondered if that was it. The potatoes are still small. If I leave it will the potatoes keep growing even if the plant is dying? And the pots. are something I missed getting written down so I have no clue.... shame on me I know thanks I appreciate the help. GGO
Did they flower? They are cool weather crops, so you may get small ones if you planted them later than April 15th. They take at least 8 weeks, and will start to brown up when it gets hot. Leave them be for one week after the tops have turned brown so the taters cure. They will keep drawing anything they can from the tops as they die back.
Here in Texas we try to plant ours Feb 14 th .I got mine planted in March .It got hot so early this year I had small potatoes .After they bloom and the blooms die out you can start searching for little ones.Just be careful and ease them out .When they start dieing back they are finishing up for the spring growth. We replant at the end of July are 1st week in August for fall crop.
