The clouds have cleared out and the sun is shineing and the sky is a bright blue. After I got fire wood brought in and the birds fed, I walked around the yard some. The grass is starting to green with new grass starting to grow. Lilly's are starting to come up. The dafs are up about 3 inches now. My oldest bleeding heart plant is starting to emerge also. I have had it about 20 years. Now if a frost dosn't freeze it back, it will be ok.
It's nice to hear of your spring 'yard discovery' items Captain. We can finally get to enjoy the emergence of spring. Nine more inches of snow cover to go on this end of the woods. A hanging basket of dianthus from last year re-appeared from under its winter blanket of snow, still green. Jerry
Lucky you Capt! I have not seen much sign of growth yet, but it has been warmer, so I think in a week or so, I should be seeing some green (I hope!)
It was such a nice day, I went out and cleaned up the one Autumn Joy bed. Got all of last years stalks clipped off and removed. There is new growth at the bottom so now it is free to grow. Got one more of those beds to do, but not today!
The only gardening I have done is cutting down the ornamental grasses. I wish I could stare at my flower beds long enough, and wake them up! I don't even see the Forsythia greenin up yet! Spring is the test of a gardener's patience.
Don't worry Kay our Forsythias are waiting to flower together. I'm hoping spring will visit here soon and stay this time - right through until summer.
It has been lovely here also this past week Capt. Tomorrow I am hoping to get the grass cut and top dress the lawn with compost and seed to thicken it up for this coming year. The children and guinea pigs take their toll on the grass. My forsythia is in full bloom, altho it is only a little plant as it was a cutting, but in the neighbourhood, blossom is starting to emerge.
