Last year I bought a couple of no-name plants from the clearance section of Home Depot, because I'm a softie, and because I wanted anything I could afford to fill out the front garden just a bit. They didn't do much last season, and died all the way back in the winter. Honestly, I thought they were annuals, there was virtually nothing left of them but nubs and dead stalks. But then lo and behold they're come back SO strongly this spring!! They're gorgeous. One is much bigger than the other one, but both look completely healthy. Do you know what this plant is? Hmmm.....after looking at the photo I'm realizing that you probably can't identify it from this image. Not close enough to see the flowers and leaves clearly. I'll take a better one and add to the thread.
That would be really helpful Ronni. They're lovely no matter what they are and they're white - one of my favourites for the garden.
Well, it looks like Palustris knows what it is. Candytuft, huh? But just in case, here are the closer up images I took.
Lucky you! It's a beautiful plant! I believe it's hardy in my area so your picture may have convinced me to get a couple also.
I love Candytuft, and have it all over the place. Spent two hours today picking out grass I'd let get out of hand last year in one of the gardens, and found good 'ol Candytuft underneath. I'm hoping it'll make a comeback in that area this year.
You have to love the surprises plants can bring into our lives sometimes. Its great to see them come back this year for you!
It really it gorgeous isn't it? I had no idea it was going to be this pretty, and now I want more!! I also am second-guessing where I planted it. I didn't know it would be that much of a spread, or as close to the ground. Really it should be a bit more towards the front of the garden. Oh well, it's so gorgeous it will be hard to miss even if other, taller plants are around it. At least that's what I'm telling myself so that I don't get out there and move it!!
If you have the right conditions for it, it will self seed around. So, with luck you will have a fair number of babies to try elsewhere.
