I have uploaded pics on photobucket.com under name printbuy. I am curious why only one of my privet's trunk extremities is affected. I have never had any problems with these privets growing abundantly.
This is a ligustrum sinensis variegata - or privet variegated - planted in July 97, in Ft.Worth, Tx. There is a sprial juniper just to the left of it, to the right an Abelia bush and another twin privet. The abelia and twin privet is fine. The spiral juniper on the left had to be cut down to a 1/3 of its original size this year because it was getting progressively brown in the upper 2/3rd. Could there be a corellation to the disease of the juniper because of its proximity to the privet?

I looked at it up close today and did not see any insects on the effected limbs or leaves. This dried up look up has been a slow steady process for over the past month. I thought it was from lack of water so uped it to daily watering 3 minutes duration. I have cut back on watering it daily since your suggestion. It has only been watered 2x this week via irrigation system for 5 minutes at a time. The soil here is hard clay but the bed has top 6" of amended soil.

Since I tree formed the privets, my flowering plants below have flourished.
