Hi there. I had bought a bare root rose last year, 'Blue Girl' and I was wondering when (and if) I need to prune it, and how. I'm worried I'll kill it!

I pruned my roses late October.
But my plants are at least 6-8 years old. The rule of the thumb that I use is that, I prune them only after they have a good soak. So, I wait for the Seattle rains and then go ahead and prune them. You can prune them even after thoroughly watering them.

Hope someone can help you more.

I prune when the forsythia is blooming, around March/April in my area.

You won't kill it...they love being pruned and will grow back bushier and stronger.

Well, I did it! I pruned my rose, and moved it to a more sunny location. Now, I'll just wait for new growth. Thanks for the tip everyone!
