Every year my roses branch out so that the branches reach across the sidewalk and up to the eaves on the roof. I wish it wasn't so branchy. It is time to prune it. Every year when it starts to get cold at the beginning of fall, I prune it. That seems to help a little. However, it is so branchy. Does anyone have any other ideas to make rose plants less branchy and more bushy? Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
I am not familiar with your climate. But do you trim your roses (not runners)in spring before they bud to get rid of dead wood and really shape the way you want it to grow? You can prune to maintain it when it is out of hand to give it enough of time to recover before really cold weather. This pruning should not be as severe as spring pruning. Enjoy nature and enjoy life.
