While at a Christmas Market at a friend's church over the weekend... I was instantly drawn to the booth with plants (go figure!)
She had a lovely and wide variety of Bromeliads.
I just had to get this one... so pretty and already in a neat hanger... all for under $10!

And the close-up with the first bloom opened up.

Ahhh, so that is what those are called. I saved one
from a yard demolition about 12 yrs ago, now it's
enormous. The plant is very easy to care for and the flowers are so unusual.
Really like that little crate your new friend is planted in.

The lady who sold it to me said they don't even have to be planted in soil! She suggested just putting it on a piece of driftwood. While researching it online, I found the same info... seems that most Bromeliads grow "on" trees in places like Costa Rica, Brazil, etc.
Once it multiplies, I'm going to give it a try.

A very interesting and exotic plant. I hope that you can keep it year after year.
