Do you know why my Jalapenos are turning purple. I expected them to turn red.

It's a stage, I think. They'll get red after the purple. dooley

Dooley is absolutely correct about it being a stage. In fact I believe that this is a special sort of Jalopeño pepper. The mature fruit will indeed be red.

that's correct all! also, when the jalapeno pepper turns purple, it's getting hotter. and when it's red, it's the hottest and has the most vitamin C.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner but puter problems! Yes Gardenmama they will turn red and there is a variety called Purple Jalapeno. I like to pick different colors because it adds some color to salsa besides the green or red.

No problem..I picked them all a few weeks ago..it was getting too cool for them...they are slowly turning red but I will use them before they all go red...

I made some jalapeno relish this weekend...It is nice!
