It is that time of year again when we have the "End of the year exhibition and art route". In this posting I will show a few pics of just the quilts. I shall write other threads covering the art walk and the exhibition, but I will show what one of the lady gardeners has displayed in her garden. To begin with this quilt featuring a Russian babushka image. A couple more patterns in the back of her lottie. She had seriously exhibited this one and was quite proud of it. I like the colours. Some detail work of preceding quilt. The subject of the quilt is a carousel...and in this detail shot, perhaps you can make out the horses that one would sit upon whilst riding. They are stitched in the white diamond-shaped areas. I did not show the rest, but there were more carousel stitch-works around the borders. This last pic is of a quilt that she called "Paddington Station". I liked the colour and naive styled pattern. There were many more quilts...I could not take them all as it had begun to sprinkle and they were packing them in. I'll bet that she had twenty or more hung-about on the trees and arches there. It gives a good idea though.
My stars, those are magnificent quilts! Please tell the lady who exhibited them how impressed your friends on the Stew are. She certainly has an eye for color and form--quilts like those don't come by accident!
Thanks for your comments, CHERYL-- I like that traditional-looking one too. MG--I shall indeed relate your compliments to her. After all that work, I am sure that she will be delighted to hear them. It is always nice to hear positive comments from outside one's own circle of friends or family.
Those quilts are gorgeous. The Magnolia (?) in the second photo is beautiful, a lot of special piecing in that one. I have been figuring out the piecing sequence in the Carousel quilt and AAAAARRRRRGGGGG, rather she than me!! All the points are there, none buried in the seam allowance and so many bias edges to keep from stretching. WOW How long has she been making quilts? Sometimes after seeing examples like hers (and Kiasmum) I sort of wish I was still making them.
I agree, she does some beautiful quilting. I have never tried doing it but it looks like it is a lot of work....
Oh my what a lot of work went into those gorgeous quilts. I love the magnolia one and the carousel best of all but they are just lovely. I know a few children who would treasure the Paddington Station one for years to come.
Glad you liked those quilts TONI--I don't know how long she has been making them, but I know she puts a lot of time into them. It was interesting to read your technical response. I shall tell her. I am happy that you liked the quilts. It is a lot of work...that's for sure. They ARE lovely aren't they, EILEEN--I think that you are right about the Paddington Station one.
Wow,that is some beautiful work on display. Were they all by the same lady Sjoerd? The Carousel is seriously stunning.and I'm wondering, like Toni, how it was all put together. I wouldn't entirely rule out foundation/paper piecing because all this points are spectacularly sharp and the quilting is beautiful-she has every right to be proud of her work. Paddington station is very sweet and I love the colours.
Love them all. I have helped quilt at our church. Have trouble making small enough knot to pull through. And me 1 stitch at a time. Other gals-whip stitching.
