Drifting far away from their native Seychelles Islands just east of Africa in the Indian Ocean, this huge seed has been known to wash up on distant shores far from their place of origin. It takes ten years to develop and the seed sometimes weighs in excess of 40 pounds, the Lodoicea maldivicia, aka the coconut of the sea, may take many years to germinate in its new home.
