Doing the Snoopy Dance again around here! ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) Just slightly less than 2 inches of rain here today. Plus the 1/2 inch from yesterday. You could actually walk across the yard and not hear that darn "crunchy" sound! My 55 gallon rain barrel is full to the brim! And to top off this much needed rainy day... a gorgeous sunset! What more could a gal ask for??!!?? Sunset62211 ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) Even my scarecrow was checking out the view. scarecrow/sunset ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) And lastly... my "little girl" Sassy Marie decided she'd like to have her photo taken with the sunset too! Glad to hear that there is good news on the weather front. Sounds like you need another rain barrel. Do many people have more than one rain barrel? Jerry
I'd love to have several more rain barrels.. however... Right now, we're making plans on getting the house raised and painted, so adding gutters/barrels now probably wouldn't be a good idea. Although... I'm tempted to go ahead and add at least one more 55 gallon one in the meantime. I believe Toni has around 5 barrels.. and Jane has a few too... even one that is over 200 gallons (I think). Who else was it that just added a 2nd barrel? (Darn... I hate when I can't remember stuff!)
Hi Cheryl, lovely sunset views and nice shot of Sassy Marie!,..your Scarecrow looks as siren like as ever!,..mentioning rain barrels,..who would have thought that with all the rain we get here that i would be thinking of getting some?,..well they are going to meter and charge us for tapped water usage in the next year or so.
Good on you, Cheryl! When I saw the weather map on the news, I thought you'd be getting wet. Could you put a rain barrel off the workshop? Depending on the size of the building, you could even have two. We have two 250 gal. containers off the barn and one off the garage. Philip, you don't have to pay for tap water? WOW! Water in Texas is expensive (go figure) and that is one reason we use rainwater for plants. I think that the rain water is better for them, too.
Thanks Philip.... and I'm surprised too that you don't have to pay for tap water. It isn't too expensive here. So far our highest bill was $65. Jane... that workshop is my brother's... which means it's off limits to me. BUT... I have been throwing out hints about how nice of a location it would be for a big water barrel! And... guess what else? We got another inch of rain overnight/this morning! wooohoooo!!! It was still drizzling when I left home this morning... so there might be just a tad more in the rain gauge. But then it's back to no rain in the forecast.
Yea Cheryl, you got more rain than we did then. There is a chance of a tropical depression heading towards the Texas coast. IF the High Pressure system that has returned and dried up the rain gets moved to the west a few miles that is. Right now I have 3 rain barrels, the other two I hope will get finished this coming weekend. With everything else going on their completion and the second compost barrel have been put on hold for the last month. Having them is keeping my water bill down in the $60 range this summer.
Cheryl $65 may not be a lot for your highest bill,..but comparing it to no bill at all its a kick in the shins!,..we get a huge rainfall per year but its not saved enough,..in my area its 800 to 1200 mm rainfall per year,.but i intend getting perhaps two rain barrels just for garden usage,..as that's where i use most. http://www.irelandnow.com/climate.html Keep dropping hints to your brother!,..your hints might be heard,..you could have a huge rain barrel there. For the past two week we have had rain each day,..none today,..well so far!,..but i hope all your barrels fill up.
