It said 100 percent chance of rain today and they were right. It rained for several hours and when we went to the post office at noon it was all the wipers could do to keep up with it. I checked the rain gauge at 6 pm and we'd had a bit more than three inches. It now says rain tonight and heavy thunderstorms tomorrow, 100 percent chance. We could get 2 to 4 inches more. I looked at the 10 day forecast and it has six out of the ten days with rain in them. I'm glad our road is fixed. It was no trouble driving up and down it today. I like this rain. It's so different from that drizzly stuff that makes the days so dark and gray and gloomy. I read while it rained this afternoon. That is what rainy days are for and I made soup and cornbread for supper. dooley
If you see anyone building a boat 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide and 30 cubits tall head for the hills. Sounds like you need about 50 rain barrels to store water for the dry spell. Small pond? Where is all the rain when you really need it? Jerry
We're getting it too Dooley... just not as much as you are... just an inch so far. The BIG storm they have been predicting for this morning just isn't happening... yet.
We had rain most of the day Tuesday, and it's raining now. The pond is up and over, my rain containers are overflowing, and I have the galoshes, slickers, and umbrellas out for the hens. They get mad when they get wet. This is such a wonderful rain--and we needed it desperately. We were 9" below average for the year, so 2013 has made up for a bit of 2012's lack! Dooley, we had soup last night, and I have bread rising now. Grey weather brings out the cook in us, doesn't it?
dr says he and Chance are going to start building an ark. They are going to make it out of old pallets. They will take two of everything except kitty cats. Chance says the world would be better off without cats. I just looked at the radar map and the whole of Texas is under a big rain cloud and a lot of severe weather is predicted. dooley
Last year north Texas had almost the normal amount of annual rainfall but it all happened in Jan, March and April. Then almost nothing for May through December so we have still been in Severe to Extreme Drought conditions. Our lakes and reservoirs from which the cities get their drinking water are so low again. The main water source is only 60% full, the rest are in the 60-80% full range and summer hasn't started
According to the radar map it's moving northeast so not much will be going your way Kay unless it changes direction. Wish we could make it go where it's wanted or needed. dooley
The rain has quit and the weather.com radar shows it going away from us on both sides. I looked at the super duper rain gauge and we had exactly six inches. I went outside this evening to take some pictures of vultures and sank into the mud, yuck! The wind is picking up. I hope it doesn't get strong enough to knock more trees onto power lines. This time we are ready though so it won't. No more rain until Saturday! dooley
Last time I checked Texas had not washed away. If we had 6 inches of rain we would be in boats now. Mud? Is it mud season? Jerry
When I made it home from work, there was 2 inches in my rain gauge... and it's still coming down. Not hard. Just a steady drizzle. I saw a few places where the ditches were overflowing. According to those weather forecasters, we get two days of "no rain" and then the next five days or so have at least a 30% chance.
Ah, the blessings of rain! We have (had) a dead mesquite tree that we were going to take down when our tree crew could get to it. With the 4 1/4" of rain we had, the tree slowly laid over-missing the beehives, the asparagus bed, and the fence! There isn't even a big hole where the roots came up. We were so fortunate. Now I need to call a friend whose nephew makes furniture and trays from mesquite, and what he doesn't need we'll cut up and put out for anyone who wants to smoke/grill with mesquite!
