Didn't think I would say is again. Not after flooding this spring. in Iowa could use some slow soaking rains. Just got done watering. At least not real hot.
Right now both my hands are in the air! We haven't had rain for three weeks, and the rain before that was a piddlin' 1/4". I'm watering tomatoes and ornamentals just to keep them alive, and it is HOT here! We are still harvesting some herbs, but that's about it until fall rains and cool. Hope we all get some relief soon.
I have had my hands raised for the last several months around here. The 3/4ths of an inch we got yesterday (after 4 weeks of nothing) really doesn't do much for the lakes when they are 5-6 Feet below normal. At least the 100+ temps are gone for a few days, but they are supposed to be back by the end of next week.
Yup, hand in the air. About 2 wks ago we saw 5 minuets of a good soaker, but it has been many months for us. Wish we could share in some of that darn flood water that's making others so miserable.
My hand is in the air too. We had a good rain a few weeks ago and a tiny bit of drizzle last week. My gardens are thirsty.
Since I hardly ever get rain - I will now raise both arms and both legs too, (if it would get me some frequent rain) - Will probably end up looking like this: http://www.world-nomad.com/wn-uploads/u ... 20x385.jpg But as long as it gets be some regular rain, I'll agree to do just about anything!
My water bill be high. But watering again this am. Just containers before work. One person I know. Most of plants dead. Said too much work to water I would water if I had to haul it from river.
Koszta- Did you get some rain?? We are getting some this morning FINALLY and the radar map showed a lot in Iowa. Yep, its been dry... but thankfully not as hot as last year *gasp*
Months without a drop of water and this week I started to hedge. Slow steady drizzle with only half finished. If I had started hedging sooner would it have started to rain then? well, I am not into electric shock therapy so will finish the hedging when it dries out. Maybe the rain barrels will fill up...only half full so far.
Got my rain barrel filled once again. I am so grateful for the rain, it has been so dry. It was also unusually cool for August today. Thats OK with me!
No rain. And weather Dude said none in site. Dh can not help me water. Has staples in stomach from gall-bladder surgery. Glad I bought more mulch this year. Don't want to waste water on weeds
I also have both arms in the air as it has been quite dry here also. We did have a deluge of rain in the early morning on the 7th of this month. When we went to bed on Tues the weatherman said that we could have a sever thunder storm. But since he had been predicting rain on and off all week we didn't think anything of it. About 1:30 in the morning the thunder, lighting, howling wind, and rain beating against our west facing windows woke me up. The lighting was constant and so bright you had a hard time looking outside. But from what I could see this was more than just a sever thunderstorm, and our power was out. Then I heard it What I thought sounded like a train going past the house to the north of us. It only lasted a few seconds and was gone. I thought I was hearing things as the wind and rain was making so much noise hitting the house. I figured I might as well go back to bed and try to go to sleep. Ya right! Since the power was off so was my fan. I figured by 6:00 am our power would be back on and everything would be hunkie dorie. Not so. Our power did not come back on until 9:00 am Wed. Which wasn't so bad. I had been trying to call my Mom who lives in Appleton, Wis about 40 minutes S-W of me. When I didn't get an answer in the morning I didn't think anything of it. Well later in the day I found out that Appleton had been hit by a tornado In the area where my Mom lives. They said that the power would be out for 3 or 4 days. Yikes! So I gathered up our coolers and headed off to get her. It was an unbelievable sight with power poles down all over and trees shredded and up rooted. I was able to get to my Mom's apt. building and let my self in. She lives a retirement community with at least 30 apts. just in her building. There are over 6 buildings like hers. It was dark in the halls and the fire doors had automatically closed because of the power failure. I noticed that the emergency lighting wasn't on. My Mom's apt. is between two fire doors. So as I stepped threw the door and it closed behind me it got pitch black and I could not see my hand in front of my face. I had to following along the wall until I to the corner and turned right towards my Mom's apt. I called out-Mom you there. Her apt. door opened and I could finally see where I was going. I was so glad to see that she was ok. So we emptied her fridge and packed a bag and drove back to my place. On Sat. the power was finally restored and I took her back home. Our one neighbor to the north of us had half the roof taken off of their pole building and the farm across the road from them also lost the top of one of their silo's and the roof off of their cattle barn. It has now been confirmed that there where 6 tornado's that touched down across the mid part of Wisconsin. Not one tornado siren sounded! Thank God not one lost their life. So much crazy weather going on across the US and the world.
Gosh, Tooty, that's quite a story! So glad that it was just an inconvenience, and no one was hurt! Yep, the weather is a constant amazement all over the world!
