News on the Today Show, this nasty virus is on the rampage once again, do not click on attachments like tracking numbers for pkgs. etc. if virus inserts itself you will get a red screen and a counting down clock. Your Pc will be locked up and you are asked to pay a ransom or all files will be lost forever.
I save all my photo's/files etc. on a flash drive and or online storage as a precaution. GL Ya'll

I've started to do the same Susie just in case the virus hits here. Thanks for letting us know about it.

If I may add to Ms. SusieQ07"s post above:

The Cryprolocker trojan (aka crilock) is a real menace and another reason why all your most precious data should be backed up. Symantec has an excellent article here as well as the interveiw with Grinler (owner of Bleeping Computer) found here The threat focused on the corporate level at first and has spread to the home user in the last few months. (guess the bad guys found that corporate IT's were a bit to smart for them to gain profits)

Following is an interesting thread at Bleeping Computer that was started by MS MVP AdmiralNorman for those who do not have access to the private Security Forums in which to discuss and share their experiences with this beast of burden.

A program called CryptoPrevent was designed that prevents not only the CryptoLocker trojan, but other malware as well. The program is free though there is a version that offers more security features that you must pay for.

    CryptoPrevent

Happy an safe computing everybody! :stew1: :smt023

Adding updated info to Suzie's topic:

There is a new variant of cryptolocker called ZeroLock. Once infected, this new variant leaves no way to recover your lost data ever. Even if you pay the ransom.

    Please read > http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ ... ansomware/

The experts are suggesting to use an imaging software to clone you hard drive such as Macrium Reflect as a back up method. This will save oodles of time if you need to reformat your HDD.
