I made laundry soap for the first time this past month. since I made it, used all of it, liked it and made my second batch last night so I am posting the recipe here for you if you are interested in it.

1 bar of ZOTE soap ( I found it at Big Lots for .90 a bar) grated on a fine grater

1 box (3lbs. 7oz) Washing Soda (NOT baking soda)

    6 cups of Borax

Grate soap on a fine grater (I used my micro planer, which grates very finely, this took about 10 minutes)

carefully pour washing soda, grated soap and borax into a large container ( I used a 5 gal bucket to give me the room to mix it)

carefully combine the 3 ingredients until well mixed. I used my hand, but you may want to use a large wooden spoon. the one scratch I had on my hand stung a little when I washed my hands, but it was tolerable) Pour into a container that is size appropriate for your batch, which for me, I used a 25 cup modular mate from tupperware with a flip top lid and it held the whole batch.

Use 1/4 cup load of laundry or 1/2 c. for heavily soiled load.

If you don't like the heavily perfumed detergents on the market this is perfect. It has a slight citrusy smell while it is in the container, but no smell when the laundry is finished.

To dry your clothes faster in the dryer or on the line...respin the load after the regular spin cycle is complete.

Used to make soap from lye and lard/tallow. Even got into making some of the classics like oatmeal and lavendar soaps. Don't understand why there is perfume and chemicals in such a simple product.
