Red-Bellied Woodpecker (corrected the name)

    I finally got a photo of one of the 5 woodpeckers that frequent the feeder. (Just wish my camera had a better zoom.)

    Nice to have this visitor but I think that it is a Red-Bellied Woodpecker and not the red headed one, Hope you don't mind. Still a great bird to have.

    yes, thats the red-bellied woodie. The red-headed woodie has its entire head colored red :)
    I used to have Downy Woodpeckers at my moms house :) I need to put suet up again and see if they come back...

    Thanks for clarifying the breed. As you can tell, I don't know much about them... just that they are fun to watch.

    What a handsome bird Cheryl with his barred plumage and red and white head. I have Great Spotted Woodpeckers that visit my own garden and love to watch them.

    He's very handsome. Great outfit! There used to be a woodpecker of some sort who hung out in the tree in my front yard. He used to hang upside down while picking things out of the wood to eat. Funny little guy.
