In October the red deer stags are at their most agressive as it is rutting season. They challenge each other constantly by bellowing at one another for the right to mate with the hinds. These hinds are closely guarded by the dominant stag and he has to constantly see off rivals and keep his harem in control. There's always the odd hind who fancies the bull on the other side of the hill and wants to sneak off. Here a stag is re-herding his girls!! Frustration among the less dominant stags is taken out on anything they can lay their antlers on - stick, grass, mud anything at all!! Lastly a lovely young stag who I think may be destined to become 'Monarch of the Glen' in a few years time.

Thank you Eileen for the pictures.They are just great.Beautiful deer .We have mostly white tail deer here smaller deer.They are everywhere.Its runting season here too.They run all over the place.There was 2 big bucks in the dirt road the other night.
