I hope I don't offend anyone, but please read keeping in mind I strive for good taste but fall very short of the mark Chainsaw and art are not words that really go together, but regionally we have a lot of family stands that dot the back roads selling chainsaw art. Red cedar logs and sawdust litter these yards with a large assortment of bears, eagles and other creatures. I have always half loved and half feared these folk art pieces, putting them in the same category as pink plastic flamingos. Fun to see...in someone else's yard. Well, at the end of a charity auction my husband and I became proud owners of chainsaw art. The funny thing is I like it so much I wish I had room for it in the house. Unfortunately I don't. It is a pretty big bench. Maybe a nice shelter should be built to protect it? I love it!! One of my favourite species of bird are owls. I really don't mind chainsaw art as it's made by individuals and with natural products. We have a chap in our village that does this type of work but I can't afford his prices worst luck.
I love your bench! I enjoy any kind of folk art. It's hand made by local tallented artist, who sometimes do it as a way to help support their familys. Thanks for shareing it with us
I have a piece of chain saw art also (a bear) that I just adore and he stands guard on the front porch. That owl bench is fantastic! I'd have one in a heartbeat. Good score!
I,too, am not a fan of chainsaw art. However, that owl bench transcends the medium and is truly a wonderful addition to your garden! Lucky you to find the one piece of chainsaw art that IS art!
that is beautiful! I noticed on the way to my husbands work there is a line of trees that were cut down, and the tall stumps have been turned into bears etc with a chain saw. I wonder if I can talk him into taking a photo...
Netty... there's a guy that has done some wonderful carvings on trees that were killed by Hurricane Ike on Galveston Island. I'm talking spectacular detail!
Jewell, I think you got a treasure. Go ask someone who does the art work about sheltering it or putting a sealant on the wood. Cedar is rot resistant, but it does get rough after being out in the weather. that is an excellent work of art from the artist. Not everyone who has a chainsaw and tries to do this actually turns out something nice. We have a full size grizzly bear in our school (our mascot) and it is hideous! (and they are all so proud of it). I drove by a place not far from home in Jan. and someone had carved a tree, only each branch had a bird carved onto the tree. I meant to take may camera the next day since I knew I was going back to the same place again, but we went a different way and I totally missed it. duh! I will try to get back down there and get the picture and ask the person about it. It actually was very interesting.
I also really like chainsaw art. We have a local guy that does some amazing carvings using a chainsaw. I would love to have that in my yard. I also have wanted a bear to put out on my front porch like cherylad has. Maybe at this years folk art in the Garden show.
Ok All, I am hooked on chainsaw art. I have grown to love the own. His name is Red. What looks like bark is really sculpt, burned and I think a light stain. It totally matches my resin wicker chairs and table. I think maybe a bear Tootyshoes and Cherylad to keep him company? Philip it is actually three pieces that slide into each other. There is a slot for the bench (all one solid piece) to slide into the owl log. There is a peg in the other log that slips into a drilled slot at the other end of the bench. Makes it easy to move, yet is very solid when connected. I'd love to see other photos..hint.
