It looked as if our squash plants were done for the season, but when I went to pull them out, I noticed new green leaves growing from the crown. I cut off the spent leaves and watered them well. Now I have bigger new leaves, and blossoms! I have not told my husband about this--he seems to think we have had enough squash and don't need more. Wait until he finds about the rejuvenated cucumbers . . . .
I have never heard of that! I will have to try it on the one out in my garden that just looks like a long vine now, because it is nothing but stalk with a tiny little fluff of leaves at the far tip.
I went out and pruned some leaves off of the watermelon......and found another one under the leaves! I'm starting to get powdery mildew on some of the leaves. So I decided to cut them off. We've had so much rain, this year. So now this plant has 5 on it and I saw two more, that are about a hard ball baseball size. I don't think they'll ripen in time.
Poor watermelon is drooping, maybe I should have let the powdery mildew go. Hopefully it'll bounce back, though. We had yet another thunderstorm last night. My son and his wife came over for their weekly visit after weight lifting. It's nice and cool after the rain. We celebrated his birthday. I don't know what we're going to do when the weather turns and we can't stay outside. I guess we'll go back to virtual lunches, which is what we did last spring when we had the safer at home directive.
Willow, I hear you. I too am wondering about that. Our daughter & we plan to go to our farm mid Sept together. She hopes to get a covid test, clearing her to be in closer proximity with us. I am so hoping she can get a test and come with us. It'll be the first time I will have been able to touch or hug her since March. Crazy business isn't this?
Cayuga, yes these are crazy times, my granddaughter was watching a video series and at the end they always did a kick bump, so we were doing that pre-covid. We continued to do that, just because. Why would your daughter not be able to get a test? My son and his wife have come in the house a total of 2 times since March. And once it was to move my sewing machine down stairs for me, it's an old cast iron singer in a cabinet, I started to move it, but my granddaughter totally freaked out. So I just had them do it. But they wore their masks and went right back outside after. The other time my granddaughter wanted them to see her bedroom, she moved upstairs and my sewing room moved down to her old bedroom. And again, they wore their masks and went right back outside. I hope your daughter can get a test and go with you. That would be very cool!
Thanks Willow. Aiicchht. Definitely crazy times we live in. When I wrote that about the test,. the CDC had just announced they were only going to permit testing of people with symptoms. They have since quickly walked that back.... So hopefully, she will be able to get a test. I am very glad you can see your family.
