Dilemma has been busy growing--she's almost as big as her mama. Dilemma has grown ( photo / image / picture from marlingardener's Garden ) In this photo she still looks shaggy-calf, but compare her size to her mama's: Reba and her (?) baby ( photo / image / picture from marlingardener's Garden ) It will still be a while before Dilemma gets her horns, and then they will continue to grow, but she is quite the cute little heifer at this stage.
I love the shaggy look MG. We have a few shaggy looking heifers, it's an endearing look! Thank you so much for the Dilemma update. You know I love to see them
Gosh she really has grown hasn't she? She's going to be an amazing looking girl when she gets her horns.
Kay, you are absolutely right--longhorns are so mellow. They rarely cause any problem, and are easy-keepers (they eat most anything and aren't water sponges like Angus.) Reba is still a bit shy--she's been moved three times in her life and isn't that familiar with humans, but Dilemma is curious about those two-legged creatures that croon to her and take photos!
A neighboring farm down the road from our shop brings in a herd each summer. People are always stopping to take pics, (I have ) The little ones always come up to the fence to say hello.
Reba recently gave birth to a brown calf--tentatively called Little Brown Baby. When we know if it is a heifer or baby bull, we'll let you know. Right now we just know it's the cutest thing on four legs!
I sure wish I had that view over my fence. I'm not to keen on taking people pic's. They're not very friendly.
I enjoy seeing your longhorns. The pictures brought back fond memories. They are so gentle. I did find out that, even if they are so gentle you can ride them, you have to watch out for those horns. I don't think they realize how long their own horns are and I was gently clobbered when he turned his head to look at me. He seemed surprised when I staggered back. His name was Gentle Joe.
What a sweet little calf and such a lovely colour. Reba produces good looking offspring doesn't she? I miss going round the farms in the spring and seeing all the newborns.
Congratulations again Marlingardener ... err why can't you tell whether it is a heifer or baby bull? Sorry for my ignorance!
