A friend gave me this shelf back in August of 2009. Here's the original posting of it. http://www.gardenstew.com/about16595.html So after 2.5 years... being moved from the trailer park to the house... 3 coats of paint and being rescrewed together each time... it was time to throw it out. I was scared that it would just crumble any day now. And I was right... when I went to load it on the truck to take to the burn pile, it fell to pieces! This only shows some of the rotting. old blue shelf-rotten ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) So, with Hubby out of town, I took on the task of building a new one. Figured it would be pretty easy since I had the old one to go by. Here's the new one. Not perfect and took me about 5 hours. blue shelf-new ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) Another couple of hours to get it painted. And, just for proof for Hubby and my brothers. There's the old one in the background ( I can hear them now... "you didn't build that... just fixed up the old one".) proof of new & old shelf ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) Then this morning, I put some water seal on it. Put it right back where the other one was and returned all the "stuff" to their proper place. Two new things is the blue wire basket that holds a sealable plastic container with fish food, mosquito dunks and food for the water plants. new shelf with stuff ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) And this adorable lighthouse birdhouse! I don't know if any birds will actually move in... but I couldn't help myself! lighthouse birdhouse ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) And, here's my water corner... looking pretty much like it looked last year. water corner 032512 ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden )
Yes it does look almost the same as before only SO MUCH BETTER!! Now there's no rot to worry about and it will last you for years. Glad you kept the old one long enough for your men folk to see how clever you are at DIY!!
Wow!! I am really impressed, you did a great job on the shelves. If we had a hammer award for projects you would be at the top of the list. Job well done!! Jerry
Thanks all! Eileen... I had wire holding it to the fence. I think it's the only thing that kept from blowing/falling down. Toni and Jerry... I wanted to be a carpenter when I grew up... just like my daddy. I used his old table saw on this project... the very one he showed me how to use when I was around 10 years old. Unfortunately, back then I got told "girls don't do that for a living". I pleaded my case for years... especially when I got to go to side jobs with him and my brothers didn't. Have I ever mentioned I'm a tomboy and "daddy's little girl"? But alas... those were the times. Now I'm thinking... what else can build?
great job I also applaud you I build stuff all the time sometimes better than before so keep on hammering
