Paul Harvey, the well known radio personality here in the US passed away at age 90. He started in radio in 1951 and broadcast almost right up to the day he died. His wife died a couple of years ago and he had been in failing health ever since. " And now you know the rest of the story."
I listened to him for many years. He always had such interesting stories about everyday people and his voice was so pleasant to hear.
He will be missed by so many.I have listened to him for so many years. I did not know he had passed away.thanks for the post Capt.
We were saddened to read the news in the paper this morning too My husband will miss him very much. Part of his daily routine was to listen to Mr. Harvey at noon while he ate his lunch.
Anyone working and providing a service until the age of 90 is a gem. I am truly amazed at how long he managed to keep people entertained all those years.
He started in radio in 1933 while still in high school. All of those years were spent with the same radio broadcast network, ABC Radio Broadcast. Such dedication to one company is unheard of now.
Godspeed, Paul Harvey. And Capt. Kirk: thanks so much for all you did when you were in the service. I agree -- we need to thank our service men and women again and again and again.
veebur, I was stationed at Virginia Beach at NAS Oceana for 11 1/2 years. From 1963 to 1974. Where in Va. are you?
Hey Capt! I'm in Urbanna which is up the Peninsula toward Richmond from Oceana. We're about 30 minutes north of Gloucester on 17.
We used to go camping at a spot on the penninsula at a little place called Pinero. And I do mean little. There was one sign post and on either side of it was a sign that said Welcome to Pinero! I always liked that area, but it's too grown up for me now. I was last in Va. Beach in 1994 and it had grown so much, I got lost!
I know! Everything here has changed. When I moved to Urbanna there was only one stop light in the county; now we have three. I do like our kind of rush hour traffic -- a cultivator on a two lane road. My garden was nothing but clay when I got here in 1993. After 16 years I can garden easier but still do a lot in containers and raised beds.
