There's a place that I pass on my work commute that is going out of business and had a few stands sitting out by the road. I'd been eyeing one of them and after 3 tries of catching someone there, I finally nabbed it. stand-before ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) It had some rust issues at the bottom, but nothing some steel wool, elbow grease and spray paint couldn't handle. Then all it needed was some plants. I'm sure I'll change some things out, but just couldn't have it sitting there empty. :-D stand-after ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden )
I'm sure the plants will enjoy their new vertical home. Nice find with lots of options. With your creative abilities it should get lots of use. Jerry
So glad you found someone in and they let you have it. That basket you have in the front is the perfect size and looks great. A lovely addition to your garden. :-D
Very good find and everything you put on it looks like they were just waiting for you to bring that stand home for them.
Thanks everyone! Jewell... I knew I'd make it into a plant stand the first time I saw it. But it's the perfect size for just about anywhere. I could use it in the garage or the house. But naturally... the plants claimed it first. Jerry... I'm thinking I could even bring it inside during the winter to hold a few plants. The "vertical" is a good thing! Eileen... the basket (at half off) cost the same as the stand! 8) Toni... the old wood bench under the Sassafras tree is falling apart, so I had to get the "crazy pot" off of it, I sure hate for it to fall and break. And that green basket at the bottom... it was that white one that I had the Baby Sunrose in. I threw it away the other day, but when trying to figure out something shallow for the bottom... I dragged it out of the trash and gave it a quick spray paint job. What I'm really trying to figure out is what to put, if anything, that will grow up behind that basket. Any ideas?
Deanna... I found two of those in the dumpster at work. Winter Racks ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) Even though I painted and water-sealed them, the bottoms are started to rot. That's another reason I really wanted this stainless steel rack.
Thanks Tooty... I'd love to have a couple more of them also! I looked at some in the store the other day, a little on the expensive side... and it didn't have a pull-out basket or hooks. I was going paint it the same stainless steel color, but the only paint like that was for indoors. I wasn't too sure about the grey... but I like it now, too!
Great rescue job with that stand and its put to good use,..how about a fern growing behind the basket,..or a grass!,..love the two stands you found in the dumpster,..despite the rot you can save them i am sure,..reduce in size by cutting off the rotting ends,..or just replace the bottoms.
Thanks everyone! Philip... I'm not sure what will become of those two wooden stands. But you can bet I'll squeeze all the life I can out of them. :-D
