I found root beer flavoring essence at the cake-decorating store & have been experimenting with it. I made a simple white cake from a mix & added a teaspoon of the root beer flavoring. Made sour cream frosting & put a teaspoon of root beer flavoring in that, too. It was really good! I also made Easter cut-out cookies for grandkids & flavored the royal icing with root beer.... they said it was "yummy!".
