I transplanted a rose of sharon a couple of years ago. I have done nothing to it as that is what I was told. For the past two years, I have had no flowers on it; it is not dead because the leaves are still growing on it. It is sad when I see others growing in full bloom but not mine. Any advise???? Thanks. moderator's note: added a more descriptive title to topic
Here's what I do with my Rose of Sharon. In early spring I cut the bush back to 2-3 leaf buds on each branch and then put a layer of compost underneath and around the plant. Pruning ensures that the flowers will appear from the new growth later on in the year.
Yes, I would prune it in the spring or late winter, as these shrubs bloom on currant years growth. This should encourage bloom. You may want to add a triple phosphate food (0-50-0) to really encourage bloom. Ron
