This Morning I put a new Rabbit fence around my Zucchini plant and here were the first leaves poking out and I haven't even prepared this part of the garden. So nice to be surprised. Rubarb ( photo / image / picture from happyzinnia's Garden ) Now I will name it Aprils Fool :-D
Our rhubarb is sprouting too and looking lovely and healthy. I hope the snow that's supposed to arrive decides to go elsewhere.
Rhubarb catches you by surprise as it grows so fast. One moment it is not there, the next POOF it is off and running. Do you grow enough for a pie? Jerry
Jerry, this is the second season for me , its an experiment since it gets so hot here. I planted it behind a Nandina shrub so it gets some shade in the afternoon. Putting a fence around it this year because the cottontails loved it last year. Hope to get at least enough to make a crisp or pie.
I'm rooting for you and the pie, desert cottontails have enough mischief to get into. Former NM resident. This will be the second year we have had rhubarb. It was given to us by a neighbor three years ago and is the only plant we grow to eat. This year, however, Stewbies have a tomato growing contest. The results will be interesting. Jerry
Last year I received rhubarb seeds in a swap. I planted some of the seeds and ended up with 12 plants. I gave my nephew in GA two plants and on another site a lady from a daycare center wanted a few plants. When we had warm weather in the beginning of March, my plants started to grow. We had several frosts and the top leaves died. I hope they sprout out again. These were my babies last fall. Don
