    Hi all,

I thought you might like to see the latest card I've been asked to make.

I only have one problem with it and that is - what do I charge? :-?

The card is A4 in size (with embossed insert - same pattern as on the front), boxed and bow and gift tag attached. What would you be prepared to pay for it?

    That is beautiful Eileen!
I have spent over $7 on store bought cards in the past and yours is much nicer.

What a work of art! You make the very nicest of cards, Eileen...and this one is no exception.
Can't you calculate the approximate cost of all the components?...then tak on an appropriate amount for your labour? of course you would not be able to charge for the full labour put into it...but something that you can be happy with and something that the customer can be satisfied with.

That can be a tricky question when it comes to hand made.
When I was quilting I made a few on consignment, the standard charge was cost of fabric/batt/backing/thread doubled or tripled depending on how intricate the pattern was. I didn't buy fabric from Walmart I bought from quilt shops and paid $8-$10 per yard for it. When sewing quilt tops for a designer in Kansas, I charge $10 per hour since she supplied the fabric. And a couple of things I had made, just to make, I ended up selling for whatever I felt like it was worth to me.

Figure your cost on supplies to make it, double or triple that to get an idea of what that cost could be. Then figure out a charge for the number of hours you spent making it. Your selling price should be somewhere in the middle. For obvious reasons, you don't want to overcharge, but at the same time do not undercharge or people will get the idea that you use inferior materials and make a 'cheap' product.

Since what you made is the gift and not just a card to go with a gift, personally I would be willing to pay a minimum of $20 - $25 for it.

    Thanks everybody!! :-D

I always find it so difficult to price the cards and other things I make. As you say Toni I don't want to charge too much but, then again, not too little either. I've decided on the price and will charge £9.99 for the card (approx $15.50)as I've made a few 'phone calls and the shops here charge from £10 to a whopping £45!!

That is a beautiful card Eileen. I knew you made cards but I had no idea they were that elaborate. I am sure you make many different types. I think your price seems very reasonable for what you have created!

I am just blown away by your card, Eileen. It can hardly be called a card, though! It's a piece of art and will be a keepsake for sure. I think your price is a bargain. It's a lovely creation, personal, and unique.

    Hi Eileen,
you created a beautiful card,..and a big one at that you said A4 in size,..that's a lot of card and artistic work put into it,..charging £9.99 or approx $15.50 is certainly not overcharging,..i would love to say charge more as it would be justified,..but as always,.. charge less and get more orders,..rather that charge more and get less orders,..your a talented lady Eileen,..lovely work and i wish you well.
