Rufous-sided Towhee

    I was so excited to capture this one..I have never seen one of these birds in my area, but I had two males & a female in the yard the day I captured this image. I could not get a decent pic of the female...they are really skiddish little things.
    Eastern species, male, of the Rufous-sided Towhee...the eastern species is called "Red Eyed Towhee".

    I can not ever remember seeing a Towhee. Nice picture, I will have to watch for Towhees.

    Well captured. What a strikingly handsone fellow your male Towhee is. I hope the three of them stay around and, maybe, build a nest in your area.

    I haven't seen one of those in the wild since I lived on a old farm stead way back in the late 1970's. We had a row of trees and old brush that they would inspect often. Scratching in the fallen leaves looking for a meal. They were fun to watch as they would pick up a leaf and toss in over their shoulder.
    I am not sure why they are so scares now a day's. But they are a very neat looking bird. Thanks for the great pic. :stew1:

    It is a beautiful picture...I have been taking all of mine through the window until it warms up ...thank you for sharing.
