It's rough being the only stay-home mom I know, all my friends aren't around to talk to when something happens. And I just got the saddest phone call I can imagine. so here I am. My brother is only 43, but he's a widower- his wife, his high-school sweetheart, died of cancer when my nieces were a baby and a toddler, so he's a single dad. His job is on shaky ground from the economy. And I just got the news, the doctor told him that the pains and odd symptoms he's been having are the onset of Parkinson's syndrome. Just too sad. :'(
Oh Mary, that is very sad. There are many new meds out now that can help slow down the progress of Parkinsons, hope they work well for him too.
Oh, Mary, that's such sad news. It seems that some people get more than their fair share of misery. But they have been doing a lot of research lately on Parkinson's. Your brother is still young.....you never know, they may find a cure in the next few years. My thoughts are with you and your brother.
Dearest Mary, that is the saddest news. I am so very very sorry. Worlds fail me at times like this, but I just want to say, my thoughts are with you, as is my love.
Mary, I am so very sorry to hear of your sad news. As others have said, there are so many new medicines and clinical trials on the horizion. It wouldn't hurt to get a second opinion. News like this is never good, but at this time of the year, it seems even worse. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your brother.
I hope the doctors can keep the symptoms at bay for as long as possible Mary. After losing his wife and being unsure of his job this news is definately not what your brothers needs. I sincerely hope that the illness can be controlled and that the research comes up with a cure soon.
Mary, I'm so sorry to hear about this diagnosis. Your brother and family are in my prayers. Times like these will draw family closer than ever.
Thanks so much guys, I'm still getting my mind around it all. Apparently they are quite sure, he's been playing things close to the vest to be sure of the diagnosis. I'm really hopeful about his prospects, too. My internet research would seem to indicate that when it hits so young, it tends to not progress as fast or intensely as when one is older. And he has good health insurance, at least right now. One step at a time, I guess...
My sister in law has Parkinson's disease. She's had it for quite a long time. I don't know what she is on for it. She lives in California. She still drives and gets around on her own. I hope your brother does well for a long time. dooley
Mary I'm so sorry to hear this.I have heard they have meds now that work really well on Parkinson .I do hope he can get it arrested.
I'm so sorry for your brother, you and your family. I really hope the progress will be a slow one, and that he'll have many good years in front of him. How old are his girls now?
Genevieve is 12 and Adelaide is 5. A real couple of sweethearts, too. Today I learned that the doc said that the progress is likely to be very slow, which fits with what I read about early-onset Parkinson's.
