Apologies to our Scandinavian members, I had this on the wrong date on my list of holidays and almost missed it. Thanks Droopy for the reminder..

May your celebrations be happy and safe.

Thanks toni. :D My youngest granddaughter was chosen to be Lucia this year, which means she walked first in the procession, wearing a fancy crown with lights. I'm ever so proud but unfortunately couldn't be there to see her.

By the way, no apologies necessary. :D I was quite happy to share my light festival with the Welsh. :D

Can someone explain the ritual/customs of this holiday? I don't think I remember it being mentioned here before (or I probably must forgot).

Yes, Frank, we do. Only this year I got the dates muddled up and didn't get around to making them. A pity, since I love them. :p And yes, we had a lovely day. :D

A couple of my bread cookbooks have recipes for those under the name of Saffron Bun, I have always wondered what they tasted like. Can you substitute Turmeric for the Saffron, since it's so expensive, without affecting the taste?

We usually do, toni. :D It's the colour that matters. I've made them with saffron and with tumeric and truth be told I couldn't taste any difference.
