When Christmas is cleared away, I spoil us with a plethora of primroses. I buy five or six, different colours, and put them together in a big basket: The colours and smell make me happy. They are difficult to keep alive for long, and I often replace them once or twice before it's time to plant them outside. The girls asked for their own flowers too, so I let them pick one african violet each: Our Dendrobium started blooming too. It's small but very sweet:
Beautiful blooms. Long ago I tried growing Primrose and it was a miserable failure, have no idea what I did wrong. But yours are pretty enough to make me want to try again.
Those are beautiful...so bright and cheery. Looks like they are just what a doctor would order to get over the winter doldrums
What a gorgeous selection you chose. Putting them all together in a basket must make a tremendously lovely sight. I'll bet it really brightens-up the room. I like seeing these. They are a true sign that spring is right around the corner. Here they are already offering tulips on the floating market in Amsterdam...the markets here will be next.
Primroses are always a favourite of mine and I have some in planters that have flowered all through our bad weather. They are certainly lovely all grouped together in the basket you have put them in. I also have African violets in the house as they brighten up these cold, dark days for me. I have never grown dendrobium but they are so pretty I may give them a try.
Wow, those are nice,, that first pic,, they are all primroses?,, When i lived in Pa, there was a plant that was already there when i bought the house, an it was called a Primrose,, but it had little tiny thorns on it,, an dark pink flowers,, do those that you have there get big, tall,, because the one that was already at that house, i kept chopping it down an it got bigger an bigger,, until i just let it go, an finally figured i should just enjoy it. it was like a bush. The violets are always pretty, but never had luck with those either,, the last ones are so delicate looking,,very nice!
Those are lovely Primula's Droopy. I love that red and yellow one...did they come with tags? And I don't think I've ever seen an African Violet like the first one. Pretty! Dendrobium? Is that an Orchid?
What a nice thing to do--letting your kids pick a couple pics of their plantsto show... Great work!... You gotta encourage them, perhaps they will grow up to have gardening `bug`. hahaha
Thank you all. Primulas prefer being outside, and they are normally tough as nails. I never manage to balance light, heat and water inside, and most of them collapse and die after a couple of weeks. So it's enjoy-and-throw. All the flowers in the basket are primroses. I've never seen tags on them when bought at the florist. The violets are very pretty. It doesn't show, but the blue one has a white border and the flowers are kind of frilly around the edges. I promised the girls we would try and make new plants from the leaves. Silly me! The Dendrobium is an orchid. The flower shop had plenty of lovely, little plants, and I had to avert my eyes and stroll quickly past them. I regret that now, so I might go back and buy one or two of the prettiest ones.
Heh heh heh... I can just picture you now...trying to fight the natural urge to add to your collection. There truly IS room for just one more (or two). I always find space for new purchases. I'll bet you DO go back, so I'll k=just say "Good luck shopping" now.
Well, I went back and checked the price tags again. The Dendrobium started at 44,30 EURO - that's about 65 dollars. Others were about 63,50 EURO - 93 dollars. I'll have to wait for the half-price sale when they have stopped blooming and hope nobody else will want them then. I did buy a big bouquet of tulips, though. They are still a bit expensive, but I wanted them for my mother. I'll get a smaller bunch for ourselves tomorrow. I think.
